My father, who grew up in Toronto and is now 85 taught me the words as:
One day, I chanced to take upon the trolley, My tall silk hat, my tall silk hat. I laid it gently on the seat beside me, My tall silk hat, my tall silk hat. A big fat lady came and sat upon it. My tall silk hat, my tall silk hat. A big fat lady came and sat upon it. My tall silk hat, my tall silk hat. Chistopher Columbus, whaddya think o that? A big fat lady sat upon my hat. My hat she broke, now that's no joke. My hat she broke, now that's no joke. Chistopher Columbus, whaddya think o that?
Just thought it was interesting..obviously the predecessor to the subway version..or at least the canadian version.
