I was nearly 16 and it was with my school music teacher. He was the first person to tell me that I had a good singing voice, but he said he could help me to use it better, so I used to go round to his flat after school on Wednesdays. He showed me how to sing from my tummy by standing behind me with his hands round my chest to stop me from breathing up the top, then one day he asked me if I wanted to do something else and I said OK. We used to do it regularly after that and I really enjoyed it.
