Wow, gargoyle. What a great article.

Bob Dylan is no spring chicken; one of the most amazing phenomena to me is his appeal to youngsters. Last Saturday I had evidence of that. Every year we hold a pre-Alaska Folk Festival jam in a small museum; people of the community come in and listen while the players- usually 12 or so of us- play and sing and take requests for a couple of hours.

This year we did something different. The host announced a Bob Dylan afternoon. It ended up with the host and about 10 young people, some still in their teens, sitting in a circle with guitars, harmonicas and bongos, as well as a couple of fiddles and mandolins. One song had no sooner ended before another favorite was announced. About 25 other young people sat on the fringes and sang along.

I'm sure that a lot of youngsters went home that day feeling good.

Thanks, gg.
