LH, if we are talking about Irving Berlin - and drivel like "White Christmas" - I thoroughly agree. On the other hand, I think the lyrical sharpness of Loerenz Hart and the musicality of Richard Rogers combined to make some of the most emotionally literate and well crafted songs I have ever heard. I think the sheer craft of some of those songs was near unsurpassable. Dylan's style works for Dylan. It wouldn't work for everyone.
