Great Article, confirms one's suspicion that much of his work is as a parasite on musical structures created by others (this is not a criticism, just an observation, Shakespeare started out the same).

The article is undermined by the selection of songs and albums. "To Ramona?" -- she and her watery eyes! "I Believe in You"? Ok song, but not among the greats. And a list without "Blood on the Tracks" on it is not a serious list.

Ah, but what is the greatest Dylan song? "Tangled Up in Blue" is my favourite, but in terms of sheer whatever-it-is I would have to go for "Mr. Tambourine Man" -- everyone is so familiar with it, it is like wallpaper, but it is still extraordinary word-painting. One could go on all day revising this choice!!
