My favorite version of JOHN HARDY is sung by SARAH CARTER recorded at the Carter Family's first re- cording session in Bristol Virginia in about 1929. It was includud in Harry Smith's Anthology which has been reissued. Smith's recordings opened up a whole new world for me and thousands of others in the early 1950's.
