Nightime would be really, really dark. Poetry would change:

"The road was a ribbon of somethingorother light
Over the purple moor...."

and so would drama:

"Swear not by the inconstant whatchamacallit, you know, that thing that used to be up there...."

And book titles would be in big trouble:

Jules Verne's "From the Earth To the Place Where Somethig Used To Be, And a Trip Around It"

and movies, too:

"Destination, Well, Where Ever...."

and, of course, song:

"By the light, of the silvery whatever...."

and Beethoven's great piano work "The Gaslight Sonata"?
