It's a movie that is popular, but not mainstream. Suburban families don't take the kids to see it. It is beloved to a select group of really cool people who really get off on the notion that most "straights" and boring people like that just don't understand it or appreciate it. If too many people get to like the cult movie, it loses its special status with its former fans and becomes mainstream. This is a real drag! To be supercool you have got to be outside the mainstream.
