On the CD "Close To Home: Old Time Music From Mike Seeger's Collection: 1952-1967 " (Smithsonian Folkways 40097), the last cut (#38) is "I would not live always" by Clarence Ferrill. I've found a clip of it at http://www.alpha-musik.de/4776217.html
http://www.alphamusic.de/clip/4776217/38.rm in realudio or
http://www.alphamusic.de/clip/4776217/38.mp3 in mp3 format.

It's a haunting style I'd never heard before listening to the recording of Clarence Ferrill, and the intensity of Ferrill's performance is astonishing. It's one of the few times I've learned how to style my singing of something from a fiddle solo.

The second I heard anyone play in that style, it was John Morris during one of the evening concerts at Glenville.
