(Dactyl, from the ancient Greek word for finger, means a metrical foot consisting of one accented syllable followed by two unaccented or of one long syllable followed by two short, as in "flattery". But it also means a finger or toe or similar structure. Pamprodactylous is a word describing organisms whose toes point forward.)
