Subject: RE: UK: Barrow on Humber Eurogather April 30
Got home 30 hours ago, at 4.30pm after saying (a reluctant) goodbye to you all, boarding a train to Stansted, changing at Doncaster, waiting 2 hours to get into the next station, Retford, because of a faulty overhead wire, being taken to Grantham by bus, boarding another train to Stansted, changing into a taxi at Stevenage (courtesy of British Rail's highly efficient successors), reaching Stansted at 9.30 only to be told that the security check closed five minutes ago and we could either travel without our luggage (to be left in left luggage at 4 pounds a day till collected) or fly to Duesseldorf in the morning, spending the night at Stansted, catching a few hours' sleep stretched out on my luggage and a couple of chairs, reaching the intercity from Duesseldorf to Muenster with minutes to spare, saying goodbye to Wolfgang at last, boarding the bus out to the airport, collecting my car and getting home a good twelve hours late. Have since caught up on sleep and survived a hiding from my boss because the email I sent from Stansted went astray so she didn't know where I'd got to. However, I enjoyed every minute of that weekend, and I'd like to second any thanks that have been said above, and add mine to Greg's family, Jane in particular, for not only giving up their home and beds to a bunch of mad Mudhatters, but also supplying them with lovely breakfasts every morning (thanks also to masterchef Eric at this point) and endless mugs of tea and coffee. Hull 2004 was definitely a highlight of the Mudcat year! Someone ought to keep track of the new Mudcatters we meet at each new gathering. (Andy???)
