I'm waiting for the conspiracy crowd to accuse Reagan of carefully planning his death in order to take the heat off W and the Iraq prison scandal. Or, someone's bound to accuse W of murder sooner or later.

Greg, I was 13 when Reagan was elected the first time. I truly don't remember much about it. I remember there was some question about the hostage release, but my question has always been, why wasn't Carter able to pull it off long before that? Were they all in cahoots together? I don't know. What I meant by my statement was that I don't recall there being any brouhaha about the voting process that year, like there was in 2000.

A few years back there was a story on Dateline, or one of those news shows, about the woman who had been the president of Reagan's fan club back in his acting days. It's well known that he liked to write letters, and he corresponded with this lady for many years - even after he became governor, even after he became President. He took the time to write to this lady. I think that's a pretty good show of decency. I imagine, though, someone will come up with some nefarious reason why he did it. Go ahead.

And remember, hatefulness only hurts the hater.
