I once worked with a civil engineer (there's an oxymoron) who simply couldn't remember ANYONE'S name. True. A few days after I met him, he called me "John." I reminded him that my name was "Bob. He laughed and said, " No it's not. It's got to be John. John is the only name I can remember. All men are named John. If you're a woman, your name is Helen. Get it?" I asked several other people about this and they all agreed. That's he got through his day. Also, he ALWAYS greeted you with "Good afternoon," no matter what time of the day it was. He claimed he didn't own a watch and it made his day real simple. But ... he was a good engineer, especially if he liked you and you happened to be named "John." Bob (I think)
