Thread Name: Lyr Req: Songs about hands!
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: SONGS ABOUT HANDS!
the Two Good Hands song about Sacco and Venzetti is by John McCutcheon, i think. and on his Greatest Story Never told c.d:
"Extend a Hand"
"As we seek to understand
The meaning of our history
We each extend a hand"

and the Master's Hand about a fiddle being auctioned has been sung by Laurie Lewis. The original poem is by Myra Brooks Welch.
"the foolish crowd can hever quite understand
the worth of a soul and the change that is wrought
by the touch of the master's hand.

In Jackson Browne's "Before the Deluge" is the line
"While the sand slipped through the opening
Their hands reached for the golden ring
In their hearts they turned to each other's hearts for refuge
In those troubled years that came before the deluge"

\Peter Rowan's song "Before the Streets Were Paved"
says " Oh, grandfather tell me is it true you worked the land
and the tools that you used were made with your own hands?"

and Peter Rowan also has this linie in "The Forest For The Trees"
"I cleared this land with my bare hands, she gave me everything for free, she gave so much i could not see the forest for the trees."

In Greg Brown's song Canned Goods :
"When i go to see my grandma,I gain a lot of weight,
with her dear hands she feeds me plate after plate"

In Tommy Thompson (Red Clay Ramblers) Hot Buttered Rum:
"Dime store santas can't disguise their empty hand and empty eyes"

Tom Paxton's Last Thing on my mind has:
In the wink of an eye my soul is turning, in your hand, in your hand"

Kate Wolf's LIlac and Apple says:
A long time ago we were planted by hands
that worked in the mines and the mills

in Stephanie Davis' song the Rope, which is sung by Laurie Lewis:
Grab (oh reach up for the rope)
and hold (withe both hands hod it tight)
through the darkness...shines the light.

in Townes Van Zant's Tecumsaeh valley Caroline :
for a dime a day and a place to stay
she would turn those hands to labor

in Vincent (starry starry night)
Weathered faces lined in pain
are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

Greg Brown wrote a song about Ani De Franco (Vivid)
YOu gave me music, with the boquet form your hand
You gave me a living song something i could understand

and in Billy from the Hills, (another greg brown tune)
If you're looking for a helping hand,
he'll give you one, you know he will

another Greg tune form the same album Speaking in Tongues:
When someone was sick we gathered all around them
and layed our hands upon them, old and young....
and that one day we may lay our hand on one another
and seek the healing for ourselves....

and from Down at the mill
(same slant 6 mind c.d. as the former quotes)
their hands are filthy, their souls are dirty

My friend Bernie Robinson has a song about Left Handed people
called What's Left.
\

and there are many other songs that have touching, holding,
massaging, throwing, paddling, hitch hiking, grabbing and other
things that hands, fingers, thumbs, etc. do.

good luck and sorry for repeat info....
