clowns terrify me and have since I was a child! Originally representations of evil spirits or the like... like the grimm's fairy tales (which were aptly named), intended to impress upon the superstitious and ignorant the consequences of wrong-doing.

of course that's just how I see it and I'm not a clown expert -unless punch and judy count.
