HAPPY Gwiff "Snarch" McGiver Day! July 10 on years when the Missippi is less than flooding, July 10 1/2 when there is a flood.
Gwiff, or Snarch as he was generally know, was the first deserter from a US Army, having deserted the riot on Boston Common, stollen tea during the tea party, fragged his sargent and captain at Bunker Hill, (was aquitted for being drunk at the time) took a pot shot or two at General Washington, hitting Martha's cat "Hamelton" finally tripping while getting out of the boat at the crossing of the delaware, and sleeping through the battle of Newark, waking with the comment, "Can't we get out of New Jersey already?"
GSM day, if generally cellibrated by getting royally souced by 6:30 AM and sleeping through the day, having a big meal of gin and tonic around 10 PM singing half a courus of God save the Quee... and passing out in the lap of who ever is sitting to the left of you. I forget the day that Bush senior barfed on the Japanese Prime Minister, but, I believe it was Gwiff Snarch McGiver Day, or Mr. Bush thought it was. It was his son George's favorite holliday, and George celibrated GSM day for most of his high school and college years. His daughters are carring on in the family tradition which is why they are the only canadates kids, kept in the closet during the campain.
