If you ever find yourself in Phoenix, Arizona you will want to look in on two pubs located here. Seamus McCaffreys'Pub and Restaurant in downtown Phoenix, and the Dubliner in NE Phoenix. Seamus opened the Dubliner, which is the one I frequent most often because it is less than a mile from my home, about ten years ago. It has gone through several changes of ownership over the years and the service and music has varied with the changes. I really long for the "old days" when Tom and Marie Teven, an excellent Celtic duo entertained there regularly and the place had a "Cheers" ring to it. Everybody knew everybody else. It's changed now and serves a much younger crowd than in the old days. There is live music Thursday through Saturday at the Dubliner and the same for Seamus'place downtown. At the Dubliner regular enterainers are Tony Cummings and a variety of local groups. Tony is based in San Diego. Bill Craig, a very fine Canadian folksinger, usually does a few weekends out of the year and he always brings back the old regulars. On those rare occasions when Tom and Marie Teven return for a gig, the place is packed. In addition to music, the Dubliner has a bank of dart machines that usually stay pretty busy. The food served at Seamus McCaffrey's is very good. Both pubs always have an ample suppy of Guinness.
