I just noticed this thread had popped back up. Since asking the question here... I asked in a festival workshop. As a result, some kind soul made me a tape of Ian Woods singing his song, so I'm all set. (Other than the fact I don't currently know where I've carefully stored the tape.)

The chorus is a wee bit different: "For the journey's nearly done" vs. "For the journey's nearly o'er," and the verses in the Ian Woods version don't rhyme - not that there's anything wrong with that.

Are Baggywrinkle planning any further visits to the colonies? I would absolutely love it if someone out in the great world of Organization would put together a shanty-group convention. (Not likely to happen, as it would serious frighten some people. Mostly anyone within a 2-mile radius with a good set of ears.)
