Thread Name: Tune Req: Captain Jack and the Mermaid (Meg Davis)
Subject: Tune Add: CAPTAIN JACK AND THE MERMAID (Meg Davis)
This may be a long wait for the tune. But since I have just transcribed it from the Meg Davis CD, I thought I should post it. I recently discovered this beautiful song and the wonderful music of Meg Davis. I feel like I have discovered a hidden gem. Not only are her lyrics interesting and creative, but the music to which she sets them is wonderful, and her voice is beautiful. And she is a very gracious person who sent me a nice email thanking me for ordering her CD - "Capt. Jack and the Mermaid". It is a wonderful collection of her songs, recorded in the '70s and '80s and re-released on CD. I highly recommend it. Her web site is HERE.

The tune, in ABC format below, consists of one verse from part I (in Dmaj) and three verses from part II (in Em). The third verse of part II has a different tune from the other verses. Part III has the same tune as part I. If you have trouble with deciphering the ABC, I can email anyone the Noteworthy Composer file or the "dots" as a pdf file - just PM me.

w:Cap-tain Jack was a young man when he went to sea.All the young la-dies go and kiss him good-bye.He was bare-ly a child of twen-ty and three.Oh, tell him young la-dies, go and tell him for me,He can mar-ry the mer-maid that lives in the sea._It was al-most eight bells and Jack has the watch. He was finn-ing and scal-ing the fish he had caught. When out of the sea there a-rose such a tuneAs he had not heard by the light of the moon."I have fol-lowed your ship now for ma-ny a mile.On days the sea laughed with_ your smile. And I'll give you my king-dom, e-ter-nal-lyIf you'll mar-ry this mer-maid that lives in the sea."
