Thank you YOR: That was very cool... Everyone in the world should look at this. Really, I am not being sarcastic. However, it is not July 4. You will note that the Verrasono Bridge is behind and to the right of the Statue of Liberty, where New Jersey really is. This phomoninon only occurs on July 17... on National (international) Army Corps of Engineers Day, when the entire US Army Corps of Engineers slips Liberty Island onto pontoons and tows it accross NY Harbor to the mouth of the Narrows (at a cost of about 12,000,000,000,137.35) and invites folks to fire off Fireworks, (no cost) which they do, and are arrested by the NYPD as Fireworks are illegal in New York. Why do they do this every year? To show the world that they can (or can can as the song associated with the holiday states). This holiday commemorates an event in the Revolution where the newly formed Army Corps of Engineers built a bridge across the widest part of the Chesapeke Bay for an assault on New Jersey, only to find that Washington had already crossed the delaware on a bunch of small boats and was now President, and had been for three years.
