I tired of this old chestnut too, so a couple of years ago started making up personal birthday songs to the tune of My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean. Verse usually starts out with "Today is so-and-so's birthday..." and goes on from there. All are tailored specifically for b'day person, for close friends there are multiple verses. Chorus is usually just "Hap-py Birth-day, to you dear so-and-so, to you , to you, etc. (This can really make up for forgetting to send a card!!)
