HEY! Happy July, 23! GUSTAVAUS II DAY!!!!
This is the day which cellibrates the victory in 1631, when Sweden's King Gustavus II repulsed an imperialist force at Werben, Russia. Of course, at the time Gustavus was also president of the united states (spelled with small u and small s - as it was before the Revolution ).
Werben, or Werben D.C. was then proclaimed to be the capitol of the united states, and remained so until the birth three days later, of George Washington, when the name of Werben was changed to Washington D.C., in preparation of the critical role it was to play when the kid grew up. Werben, or Washington, was then moved from Russia to the swampy bits near Vergina, Maryland and the Congo, thereby starting the "Cold War" (see my book, the effect of moving Werben on the Gorilla population of Russia, a study of hyper nomadic embology on higher primates due to the effect of cold winters and beer. Bantam Brothers Press, New York, 1974). [I was espcially pleased with the cover art, a painting by Mongo Jim Phaszerby Hink...]
Gustavus, repulsed the imperialist forse by mooning them, after a long horse ride from Sweden. Though repulsed, the Russians still won the battle, but lost Werdan in a card game when Gustavus produded the 22nd Ace of clubs during a hand of poker, in which most players had at least three aces (there were 8 hands dealt, the players being Russia, Sweden, the yet to be descovered Pitcarin Island, Togo, Bob Hope, the Republic of Swindon, France and playing for England - Brazil.
So there you are... history friends, the stuff of dreams.
