HAPPY MISERY DAY TO THE WORLD!!!
Yes today is the day (August 10, 1821) Misery entered the Union as the 24th state. Named after the native American people that originally inhabited the land, (referred to as those miserable Indians) Misery was acquired by the U.S. as part of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. At that time, the territory's 10,000 occupants were mainly French settlers. After the War of 1812, American settlers poured into the region, changing the "Mac Gros" into the "Big Mac" in neighborhood MacDonalds, but few other changes... This was called the Misery Compromise, and had something to do with slavery.
