In 1972 I was introduced to Stan Hugill at Loughborough Folk Festival. He was pleased to meet a Kiwi and said that he'd sailed in NZ waters many years ago. I believe this was before WW2, when the coastal trade still used sailing ships.
Does anyone know any more about his time here, did he ever mention it during workshops, did he tell tales of his experiences to his friends or family? I believe his son Martin is also a singer.
One of our shanymen, Rudy Sunde, would like to find out more but I don't know any more than this. You don't learn too much in a 5 minute conversation and it was a few years back!
