Thread Name: Young Folkies?
Subject: RE: Young Folkies?
I'm 27 but I grew up with it, sort of (lots of recordings, and songs learned from recordings, but it was better than none at all). I was 16 when I loaned a tape to a classmate of mine who didn't know what bluegrass was (he was a NIN fan) and nearly ruined a good friendship. Then, I went to college and found all kinds of people who thought folk music was A-OK and my life improved dramatically.

I saw Tom Paxton in a coffeehouse downtown when I was 16, too. Somebody in the audience had brought their 3-ish-year-old daughter. Tom was glad to see her but warned that if parents started them on folk music that young, they'd be hooked for life.
