In later developments it appears the Great Popcorn Catastrophe was a carefully orchestrated election-year boost laid down in smokey back-rooms by overweight Republicans wearing gold watch chains. It seems the scheme was conceived in the perfervid brain o f Karl Rove and called for people to believe hte popcorn was being distributed to each according to his need by left wing fanatics, thus causing a lurch to the right by thousands of undecided and slightly spastic voters.

However, the printers who had been ordered to provide little "Remember the Motherland" slips to put in the popcorn boxes, to convince people the popcorn was a Communist plot, slipped up and printed "Defend the Homeland" on the slips instead. Voters thus immediately saw through the scheme and proceeded to decide to vote Green in unprecedented numbers.
