Subject: RE: BS: Does 'W' Believe in Evolution?
Whether or not "W" believes in evolution is, or should not be important. I think what you folks are afraid of is censorship. As long as the government does not interfere with your right to study the topic, I don't think that there is anything to worry about. I, as an Orthodox Jew, do not believe in Darwin's theory, but I do not think it is proper for me to force my views on someone else who does believe in it and will not in any way interfere with his right to teach or study it. When I went to Yeshiva high school in the 1950s, we were taught evolution as part of the syllabus that was required for the Biology Regents exam. However, we were prepared in advance to treat it as a theory and not as absolute truth. In fact, if the Old Testament is properly studied along with the relevant Talmudic and Midrashic commentaries, there is much material to explain away many of the contradictions and to reconcile many of the differences between God & Darwin.
