Thread Name: BS: Is Religion Rubbish?
Subject: RE: BS: Is Religion Rubbish?
Religion is not carefully defined in this thread. My definition of a person who is sincerely religious has more to do with what they do then what they say.
As some Christians say, "Walk the walk".

Religion can serve an important function. It doesn't have to be "an opiate of the people" and I think that even Marx would have agreed with that.

It's not rubbish if it serves a constructive function, makes people more compassionate, less self-serving, more loving, thoughtful and less abusive and angry. If it raises a level of consciouness (whatever that is) to a point where a bigger picture is seen regarding how we live and treat each other in society and keeps the doctrinaire from their bigotry, does not create as the Quakers say "undue distinction among men" (women too) and is not yelled about from pulpits or screeched and hollered by crazy evangelists but is incorporated into the fabric of society in the way that Joe Campbell says that all good Myths do, but if it is dismissed summarilly, then that in itself is a form of bigotry and narrow-mindedness.
