Thread Name: Lyr Req: About Cajun Music...?
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: About Cajun Music.....?
Recently found a book called "The Makers of Cajun Music - Musiciens cadiens et créoles," by Barry Jean Ancelet and Elemore Morgan Jr., 1984, Univ. Texas Press. It discusses the principal makers of the music, all illustrated with excellent color photographs, and lists their better known works, some with brief lyrics. It includes a discography. Text in both French and English.

Besides the performers, the article on Marc Savoy and his Savoy Music Center, where Acadian accordians are made, was especially interesting.

Unfortunately, there is no index. Glancing rapidly through, I noted lyrics for "Valse des Balfa," and a historical piece, the first line of which, translated, is 'The goddams are coming'- the English, of course. Most lyrics are just fragments illustrating the style of specific musicians.

The oversize book, paperback, used but perfectly clean, cost $6 at a bookstore.
