Hi Bob, I live in Alaska for the last 30 years at any rate. I heard this version the first time done by Gordon Bok and copied the words down of a Bok tape. I think that this theme would fit in quite well here in Alaska with all the gold mining that goes on and maybe thats why I liked it so well. The folk process is inevitable and even though I think it is important to be true to the original authors words, the evolution of songs like this is interesting. Thanks for supplying the proper lyrics, I will add it to my collection.
