After a great deal of thought and discussion, we have concluded, with extreme regret, that there are so many other demands on our time and energy at that point in time, that it isn't possible for us to make the trip, and we will not be sending in the rest of the money. If it were only 4 or 5 hours drive, instead of 8 or 10....
I don't know whether you give refunds at this point, or not. If you do, keep it and buy beer for those attending. If the liquor laws forbid that, buy ice cream and doughnuts.
