I have made a point of leaving small appliances unplugged when they're not being used, even though they have "off" switches. Hair dryers, crock pots, toasters, my bread machine (think of the mischief that could get up to all by itself if it had a glitch in the computer chip!), crock pot, electric tea kettle, stand mixer, etc. I used to leave my bread machine plugged in all of the time so I didn't have to reset the clock. But that's so much simpler than replacing the kitchen.
