Unless it was for a human, I wouldn't go back in without bunker gear and attack/protection lines. I am crazy, not stupid. No point getting killed saving physical things, the memories of which we store in our brains.

Fellow returned to a trailer to get his wallet with about $200 in it. We took his body out after we got the fire under control. He collapsed in the hallway and died, likely due to smoke inhalation. His wallet, which was near his bed, was fine. Not even charred.

Leave the re-entry to the guys and gals who have the fire suppression apparatus, gear and training. It really isn't usually for well-meaning amateurs, and few people really understand just how quickly fire spreads or how much toxin is in the air when a house burns. Get out and stay out. Period. Please.
