    The moon always shows the same face to us because of the years things have settled down that way, the energy exchange between the earth and the moon caused by tidal forces has brought them into line like this. It wouldnt happen to two solid bodies, apparently, you need the water sloshing round to make the energy exchange.
   Have the two parties inadvertently synchronized their levels of support by the expenditure on polls, focus groups, TV ads etc etc?They exchange information so skilfully, due to the vast expenditure of money, that they automatically adjust to each other, and if one creeps ahead the other adjusts and catches up. Perhaps a party could only seriously get a big distance ahead by deliberately uncoupling itself from this process of mutual interaction? I wonder who is working on this sort of thing, it must be occurring to politicians. Anybody familiar with any discussions on these lines?
