I forwarded this to Morgan:Hi. Witch of the Westmereland is written by the contemporary Scottish songwriter Archie Fisher. He recorded it on his Folk Legacy album The Man With A Rhyme.
It was also recorded by the late Stan Rogers on his live album Between the Breaks--a different more rocking kind of version. Stan commented (I forget if this was on the recording, I think I heard him say it in concert once)"this is a song about a 600-year-old legend that Archie Fisher made up", which about sums up the situation.
Betcha thought it was an old song--goes back to the early 70's I think!
Any way its a good one. That's a great album of Archies, I believe it has been rereleased on CD.
