The times surely have changed. Back in 1952 one could purchase a roundtrip ticket---which I did coast to coast---and get on and off whenever and wherever you wanted.   You really saw the country---and some of the views were spectacular.

But---the times have changed. I doubt you can do that and there certainly are not the connections to be had anymore---and AMTRACK is your only option being the sole operator of passenger trains. As Utah Phillips once said---he knew someone who wanted to comit suicide and lay down on the tracks of AMTRACK---he died of starvation.
