Sonnet 23/05/03                            DCCCXXII

I ask my muse how I might her hopes please,
To give all she desires. How to earn prize
I seek is goal: Yet, can I her heart seize?
I think each night of smile, and caring eyes.
The human heart is foolish, and seeks dreams
Beyond reason and sense. But, is it crime
To chase after desire? Are hopes but schemes
That demand unearned wages for their time?
With words that reach my heart, and eyes that hold
The future, can dream forget muse, or seek
For less than love? But, have I passions told
In truth, too old to more than hear heart speak?
She is my muse: Her words give me my sight:
How else might I share dreams she has at night?
