I can tell you that character is definitely not in Red Dwarf! Must be in Hitchhikers.

Back of the subject of names, I used to be taught cello by a man called Mr. Tune, and the school he tatught at before going private had a Head of English called Mr Shakespeare. Nominative determination or what!
