Nitpick alert!

Baseball is played outside of the US. It's big (and excellent) in Cuba, and big (and excellent) in Japan. So excellent in both places that US baseball teams fall over themselves to recruit the top players from those places.   I certainly agree that calling the US championships "the World series" smacks of chutzpah in the extreme.

Another nitpick: "American" football is played in Japan. Their word for it translates as "armored football".
