Thread Name: What a Friend We Have in Maggie?
Subject: What a Friend We Have in Maggie?
Has anyone noticed how similar "What a Friend We have in Jesus" (the most usual tune) and "When You and I Were Young Maggie" are?

The "Maggie" tune was written in 1866 by J. C. Butterfield two years before Charles C. ConĀverse wrote the tune "Erie" which is the one we usually associate with "What a Friend etc." Erie was the town in
Pennsylvania where Converse worked.

We tried singing the two songs together and they make a rather nice duet. They deviate a little in the middle part but come together again at the end bit.
