Thread Name: Lyr Req: French Song (Marty Feldman)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Marty Feldman's 'French Song'
Dear Jim

Found the tape. It still makes me laugh and there's one or two songs in there that might yet turn out to be a Christmas party piece !!

The 'French translation' recital is as follows ...

"My Next song is a translation of a good old French poem. It tells the story of a young lad who, believing the world to be his oyster, kisses his childhood sweetheart goodbye and sets off for Paris, fame and fortune.

The second verse tells of his disolution as he sits surrounded by all the symbols of material success and yearns for the days when he found joy in the simple things: the scent of new mown hay after rain, the glint of the summer sun on a brook, the touch of Yvette's lips on his own ...

He asks himself, has he gained or lost?

The song song loses a little of its impact in translation.

In fact, it loses a lot.

In fact, the Hell with it. Lets not do it"

If you need any other words from the tape, just ask.

Cheers, Helen.
