I disagree, Rapaire (not to the extent of worrying about it!). It's not a matter of protecting the rights of the author, it's a matter of respecting the rights of the readers.   

When we fail to say we got a piece from somewhere else, it's a bit like collecting a song, and letting it be understood that we wrote it ourselves, when we didn't. This kind of material is actually a kind of folklore.
