Thread Name: BS: Kwanza is an invented non-holiday
Subject: RE: BS: Kwanza is an invented non-holiday
I'm all for celebrating Kwanzaa, or any occasion that encourages pride of accomplishment, respect for heritage and traditions and a desire to live a more moral life. Kwanzaa is not basically a materialistic celebration to sell cards (and certainly not gifts, as none are exchanged.) We don't send out Kwanzaa cards and only receive a couple a year, so this isn't a Mother Lode for Hallmark. And, most of the Kwanzaa cards I see are produced by small, black-owned card companies.

As half of my family are African-American, some only two generations removed from slavery, I see the good in the observation. Do I need it? No, I don't need it.

But then, I sure don't need the ugly, profane interchanges of this thread.

How about bringing a little peace to the Cat and deep-sixing this thread?
