Charming, really, isn't it, to see the once mighty Bearers of Empire and Messengers of Civilization bravely bear up and continue the pretense that they represent the highest quality of Being to which humankind might aspire -- and thank God, I might well add, that it is only a pretense, or the race would be in even more hopeless condition than it is.
