Sonnet 04/08/03                         DCCCXXXVII

How can I keep from loving muse with eyes
That show such caring and concern? I see
All I desire: Thought of her smile makes wise
Even my foolish hopes that kiss might be.
Her lips call to me, but I cannot reach
Across this distance to desired bliss:
I depend upon dream to passions teach,
But dreams have not the power of one kiss.
She owns my dreams, and heart: How can I stay
So far from one I seek? Had I the chance,
I would my dreams make real: I know the way,
But not if she would wish for my romance.
Her eyes fill me with longing, but I try
To keep control, and not to sweet muse fly.
