Thread Name: Now that's UK worst Christmas No 1 EVER!
Subject: RE: Now that's UK worst Christmas No 1 EVER!
just because these tunes were the songs of the moment the week that included Christmas doesn't make them Christmas songs -- what I find particularly revolting are the songs that add to the stress of the season by rearing their ugly and insufferable mutant heads the moment the whistle blows and the mall doors open on "This Most Wunnerful Time Of The Year".
gag me.
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer was cute the first two times I heard it. You were all saved from having it make any sort of list, now there's something to celebrate!
There is a song so thick with sappiness the Tin Man would have popped his rivets to yank out his ticker and stomp that sucker flat (for THIS I wanted emotional awareness?!!) -- the song is formulaic in extreme in that it has an "aw geee" kid, a dying mum, many mentions of meeting Jesus, an angellic kids chorus -- all revolving around the purchase of a pair of "Christmas Shoes". It was even turned into a TV movie of the season here in the states.
If there is a hell and I'm goin' there, this is in heavy rotation on the playlist.
Hands down most awful Christmas tune EVER.

I confess I haven't heard all the tunes you've listed -- but then I don't listen to Top 40 radio over here, either, if it can be helped.

I must admit I am agog that Little Jimmy Osmond's shamelessly saccharine chipmunk cheeky defining moment in the spotlight (tho propped and propelled there by the machine of Family Business)is remembered by ANYONE at all, never mind that you evil Brits conspired to make it a hit!?
I suppose it gets my vote.
and you get the bill for the sessions of therapy this will require to "get over and move beyond it." lol.
