Jon Freeman, I'm currently converting a tenor (cheap, old, shot, no historic or antique value) to a 5-string, and I'm doing it because I play 5-string. But if it makes you feel any better, I was looking at my first five-string (the one the conversion is supposed to replace) last night and wondering what it would take to convert it to a tenor. I think I could cut it off at the fifth fret, scarf-joint on a peghead, replace the bridge, and reinstall the tuners. Will that appease your anger?Seriously, I've been wondering lately about tenor banjos. Could you describe (at the risk of thread creep) the method of playing them. That is, do you use a pick to play single string melodies or do you finger pick or what?
Thanks, The other Jon (W.)
