Kaleea, I am not sure I follow you exactly. MAny patients are resistant to anesthetic and it it not unusual to have to add additional quantities of anesthetic. Did your dentist give you percocet? If he did, I am sure he thought you were in sufficient pain to warrant such strong analgesics.

As far as your father, it is not unususal for dentists to recommend taking over the counter pain meds prior to having a history taken with the patient and establish a relationship, also avoiding drug seeking people who keep root tips in their mouth as a means of acquiring narcotics. SOme dentists especially military or ones in institutions like the VA have a standard criteria of what they can and cannot do. It is always a red flag when any patient says they are resistant to pain meds. etc as this is one of the most common techniques of drug seeking people. I am not suggesting this is the case at all with you, but merely pointing out that this is the rationale for some dentist's decisions.
