Sidmouth Folk Festival began as a small, dance-oriented, festival in the town. The brief decamp to Exmouth didn't work very well, so it returned to Sidmouth.

The festival was expanded, to a mega-international event. Subsequent developments have suggested that Sidmouth isn't any longer up to the challenge of hosting a mega-international event. At least, not if it depends on events taking place outdoors in August.

It may well be that another mega-event takes place at another location during the first week in August,and good luck to it.

But Sidmouth will still be a good place to sing, tell stories, dance and play between 28 July and 5 August.
