I think the living rooms were the waking nightmare part of it--they were worse than some of those couches. My house is messy, but interesting, never so down in the dumps as those. Whew! (If you can avoid some of those fashion trends like flocked wallpaper and wood paneling and harvest gold, you're doing yourself a favor for the long haul. Good quality wood and upholstery holds up for generations.) My couch, the first big piece of furniture I ever bought for myself (I inherited a lot many years ago) was purchased when a Thomasville store was closing (owner retired). They ran the "going out of business" sale for a long time, but only at the end when they were REALLY closing did I go in and look around for something to actually make an offer on. It's lovely and is a wonderful nap couch.

Anyway, I agree with Rustic, that "winner" couch actually had potential. It needed good upholstery and a great setting. We had one, with the original horsehair, up in my great aunt's attic and I've always regretted not keeping it.
